Andrei Rublev (circa 1360 – 70-circa 1430) – a Russian icon-painter of the Moscow school. He took part in painting the walls and icons of the Annunciation Cathedral in the Moscow Kremlin (1405), the Assumption Cathedral in Vladimir (1408), the Trinity Cathedral in the Troitse-Sergiyeva Lavra (1425-1427), the Cathedral of the Saviour in the Andronnikov Monastery in Moscow (1420s) and the Assumption Cathedral in Zvenigorod (early 15th century). Rublev’s icons and frescoes are noted for their profound humanness and spirituality, the atmosphere of peace and harmony and perfection of form. His famed icon “The Trinity” is displayed in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
