Obverse: The obverse of the coin depicts a map of the islands of Madeira, Porto Santo and Desertas, surrounded by the inscription “600 anos do Descobrimento da Madeira e de Poto Santo”. Under the name of the state and year of mintage “Portugal 2019”. The outer side of the coin features twelve stars of the European Union.
Reverse: Regular 2€ nominal number.
Edge: Elements of the Portuguese coat of arms on the edge of the coin – five shields and seven castles of three towers.

The 2019 Portuguese commemorative 2-euro coin dedicated to the 600th anniversary of the discovery of the Madeira Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Madeira, adjacent to Porto Santo Desertas and a few other small islands, form the Madeira archipelago, which since 1419 belongs to Portugal.
